Yesterday, May 16, 2013, was the opening day for Steelhead fishing here on the lower Columbia River. I drove over to my good friend Steve S. that lives just across Welcome Slough and asked if he would like to go fishing with Josey and I. He said sure lets jump in my boat. Then he mentioned that the Gill-netters were in all day yesterday and no one caught any steelhead just a few springers and quite a few Jacks, so there’s a good chance we won’t have any luck. I told him we have Josey with us so I feel lucky!
After just about an hour with our lines in the water Josey and I caught two nice 7-8 pound bright steelhead. Here’s a photo of the first one caught.
On the wooden boat front, I just finished sanding The Vanessa’s (Devlin Eider 18′ LOD Gaff Rig Sloop) brightwork and added a couple of coats of Cetol then launched her for the late Spring and Summer sailing!
