January 8, 2012; 8:00 am – 1:30 pm; day 43 (218.5 single man hours to date). Today I hand planed the superstructure bulkheads and beams to there proper shapes. Then sanded, prepping for varnish. I made some fir plugs and glued them in. Then I set up the 15″ planner and planned some beautiful tight grain old growth fir. Once planned to a heavy 7/8″ I ripped, steamed and clamped them to the gunwales so they can dry to shape for glueing and fitting next week.
