The exterior is pretty much complete. What’s left is the rigging and a little brightwork. I’ve moved into the cabin, working on the fit and finish of all fillets. I’ll mask, texture and then paint. These photos easily show where the old leaking plexiglass windows were and replaced with proper openable port lights.

Dudley Dix – Cape Henry 21: Port Lights
Today I started at 7 am cutting holes for the bronze port lights. By noon the job was done. Thank goodness because the weather forecast is calling for a scorcher! Pretty much inside work from now on.

I started working on the interior! First is to fill and fair the old window holes. Then move on to re-filleting most of the seams, then fairing them smooth readying them for proper interior topcoat paint.

Today I finish repairing the rotten companionway but didn’t get to sand and paint it because the epoxy needed a few more hours to complete drying. So I installed the anchor system and repaired the tabernacle.

Here are a couple of shots of the non-skid. Today I started on the cockpit. I planned to get the first coat of paint applied until I found this rot at the port side of the companionway. Yesterday and today I managed to apply a fourth coat to the brightwork between rain showers!
Dudley Dix – Cape Henry 21: Primer on Superstructure
This morning I got an early start vacuuming and masking. I then painted a couple of coats of primer on the superstructure. Afterwards, I put a fourth coat of jade green on the hull.
Dudley Dix – Cape Henry 21: Grab Rails and Cockpit Cowling
Yesterday I built the grab rails and the cockpit cowling trim out of old growth Douglas fir and fit them. Today at 6 pm I got a chance to put a coat of cetol on them.

This morning I set the bung plugs. Then late this afternoon, I sanded the gunwale guards and gave them there first coat of brightwork!
