20′ Banks Fishing Dory, USCG – Starboard Plank
Today I just put in a couple of hours spiling. Then cut, planed, scribed and hung the second plank on the port side.
20′ Banks Fishing Dory, USCG – Garboard Planks
Today I put in 4 hours planing and fitting the 2 garboard planks. Then I did the math for the next 3 planks. Tomorrow I will remove the 2 garboard planks then glue and screw them back into place. Then I’ll begin the process of spiling the second plank.
20′ Banks Fishing Dory, USCG – Planing Each Frame
Today I put in 3 hours planing each frame so they will take a plank flush and fair. Then I did the math (something that the folks in D.C. don’t have a clue about) and made up one side of the garboard plank. I then tried that same plank on the other side of the hull to see if…

Today I put in 3 hours scarfing the balance of the 3/8″ plywood planks.

20′ Banks Fishing Dory, USCG – Tombstone Transom
Today I worked about 5 hours. I first built the tombstone transom. I framed it with 1×3 and 1×6 and then skinned it with 3/4″ marine plywood. I then got a nice clear rough 2×6 about 5 1/2 feet long and planed it. This will be the stock I build the bow stem out of. I removed all the…
20′ Banks Fishing Dory, USCG – Floor and Rib Frames
Today I put in 5 1/2 hours building most of the floor and rib frames. Tomorrow I’ll finish up the last 2 that can be secured to the strong back. This process will take some time because each frame needs to be plumbed and level then braced so when the planks are bent and fit they won’t pull the…
