Yesterday and today I managed to apply a fourth coat to the brightwork between rain showers!
Dudley Dix – Cape Henry 21: Primer on Superstructure
This morning I got an early start vacuuming and masking. I then painted a couple of coats of primer on the superstructure. Afterwards, I put a fourth coat of jade green on the hull.

Yesterday I built the grab rails and the cockpit cowling trim out of old growth Douglas fir and fit them. Today at 6 pm I got a chance to put a coat of cetol on them.

This afternoon I fit the gunwale guards to the top and bottom of the sheer strake! These gunwales are a full 1″ thick and 22′ in length, solid old growth fir.

Then, I mixed a couple batches of epoxy fairing compound and blocked out both port and starboard sides of the superstructure. This is the second post for Tuesday. After plugging and fiberglassing the old window holes I was going to call it a day, but the weather turned nice so I put on her second coat of hull paint. If the weather holds tomorrow, I’ll put on a third.

Today I finished fairing the hull and, she’s ready for another coat of Jade Green. I also faired the window plugs and put 6 oz fiberglass cloth over the port and starboard side covering the window plugs. Tomorrow if it doesn’t rain, I’ll paint!

Happy Father Day! This morning I got an early start and plugged those homemade windows. When I return to the shop on Tuesday afternoon, I will fair them and use 6 oz cloth and fiberglass them inside and out. Then, I will move back to finishing the hull paint.
