Salt Bay Skiff – Rudder and Tiller
Today I built and fit the rudder and tiller. This vessel is now complete. She will be out of my shop this Saturday, so I can loft the sail rig on my floor and mill the mast, boom and sprit.
Salt Bay Skiff – Turned Upright
Today a couple of friends came over to help turn her upright. Then I varnished her transom. Next week I hope to be finished with her daggerboard, rudder, mast, boom and sprit.
Salt Bay Skiff – Final Coat on Hull
Today the 3rd and final coat of Jade Green was applied.
Salt Bay Skiff – 2nd Coat on Hull
Today I sanded the hull with 220 grit and applied the second coat of Jade Green EZPoxy. Tomorrow I’ll sand and apply a third, then apply a coat of varnish to her transom.
Salt Bay Skiff – Jade Green Hull
This morning I faired the hull and applied the first coat of EZPoxy Jade Green top coat. At least 2 more coats to go.
Salt Bay Skiff – Fairing the Hull
Today I faired the hull and added a coat of West 410 fairing compound to her fiberglassed areas. Tomorrow I’ll fair her smooth and begin to paint.
Salt Bay Skiff – Prepping the Hull for Fiberglass
This morning I prepped the hull for fiberglassing and then layered the glasses down with epoxy and secured the keel shoe.
Salt Bay Skiff – Turning Over
Today I had a friend help me turn her over this morning. I prepped the hull by filling all her screw holes and laying down the first layer of fiberglass around the daggerboard trunk were it meets the bottom of the hull. I then built the daggerboard.
Salt Bay Skiff – Touch-Up and Green Pinstripe
Today I did all the off-white touch up and added the jade green pinstripe to the top edge of her plywood sheer. We just have to wait a couple day for all the paint to dry completely, then turn her over to fiberglass and paint her hull.
