In the big county of Wahkiakum (population 3,000 and not a single traffic light), they have the annual (as the locals call it) the Wahkiakum County Worlds Fair. The fair is truly old timey!! Lots of 4H competitions, baked and canned goods and crafts. Huge Fresh grilled BBQ salmon lunches for 5 bucks and don’t forget a fresh fried elephant ear with cinnamon and sugar.
This year I entered “Abi Gale” a red cedar lap strake sailing pram I build for my granddaughter. Abi Gale won 3 ribbons, a First prize blue, a Superintendent pink and an Honorable Mention blue.
We had our friends Paul and Becky Russell with us, they’re from the Portland, Oregon area so spending half the day at the 105th annual fair was a treat.
Later that afternoon Paul and I sailed the 7 seas aboard “Vanessa” (18′ LOD Devlin designed Eider). By the way, the 7 seas are the waters in front of our place on the Columbia river. It was a great Saturday!
