October 18, 2011. This is the first day of building Sam Devlin’s new plans for his trailerable sailboat “Eider”. This gaff rig sloop is approximately 18′ LOD. I started at 7:30 am and ended my day at 2:00 pm.
I first laid out the seven (7) 4×8 sheets of 1/2″ plywood and scarfed them at an 8 to 1 ratio. I then used a power plane and a belt sander to do this job. Once this was done I went through the process of epoxying them together ending up with two (2) 4×18’s and one (1) 4×20′. These 3 long sheets will make up the two side panels and two bottom panels that make up Eider’s hull.
