September 12, 2011. Here are a couple of photos that were emailed to me by Pete Leenhouts. Pete is on staff at the Northwest School for Woodenboats at Port Hadlock, Wa. The first photo is of Jody and Macksey on “Rachel”, and the couple on the dock are Denny and John Welsford. The second is of Jody and I.
We met Denny and John walking the docks at Port Ludlow. They stopped to admire “Rachel” and asked if we were going to be at the Port Townsend Woodenboat Festival. Then we introduced ourselves…. I have never met John Welsford in person because John is the famous boat designer of the little sailing vessel “Scamp”, and John and his wife Denny live in New Zealand. The very cool and crazy part of this happenstance meeting on the docks of Port Ludlow is that John and I were emailing one another just a few weeks ago about the design and efficiency of the off-center swing centerboard. He remembers our emails in detail. John and Denny are as kind and humble in person as I felt coming through their emails!
