On August 28th, we launched “Rachel” on a perfect day on Puget Island. Based on Sam Devlin’s Pelicano 18, she measures 19 feet and sits smartly in the water (www.devlinboat.com). Pelicano 18 – Motor Installation
It’s a beautiful day on Puget Island, and she’s on the trailer headed to get the motor installed.

The boat is built! At this point, I have logged 229.5 single man hours. Tomorrow, I glaze the windshield, do the electrical system and install the hardware. Monday, I will take it to the motor guy. Pelicano 18 – Varnish
I sanded the white and put the first coat of varnish on all bright work, then left for Longview, Washington to pick up the custom cut safety glass for the windshield. I got back to the shop at noon and put on the 2nd coat of varnish. Tomorrow I will put the 3rd and last…
Pelicano 18 – Coordination
Today was a busy day of coordination. After making templates for the windshield safety glass, I drove to Longview, Washington, dropped off the cuddy cabin foam for the cushions to Longview Upholstery and dropped off the glass template to Twin City Glass. Pelicano 18 – Windshield Reassembled
Reassembled and epoxied the fir windshield together. I also cut and installed all the Douglas fir wood plugs and applied two coats of paint to her exterior.
Pelicano 18 – Fir Windshield
Sanded the wood filler and then built the fir windshield. Started at 7:45 am and ended at 3:30 pm.
Pelicano 18 – Cockpit Inwales
The inwales around the cockpit were built and installed today. Started at 8:00 am and ended at 1:30 pm.
Pelicano 18 – Hatch and Door
Today, I built and completed the companion way hatch and door. Started at 1:00 pm and ended at 6:30 pm.
Pelicano 18 – Deck Beams
After finishing up the hands sawn deck beam for the companionway, all the deck beams were complete. These deck beams make up the ceiling for the cuddy cabin. I then finished building the cabin itself. Next come the building of the companionway hatch and door. Started at 9:45 am and ended at 5:45 pm.
