This last Thursday I applied the last coat of Jade green topcoat paint to her hull. Then early Friday I had a few friends over to flip the skiff right side up.
Its interior is a mess. I re-fastened most of the in-wales, re-adjusted the port oarlock mount, did some gluing, the transom and stern knee and got about 1/2 the interior sanded with some 80 grit.
My plan is, once it’s sanded down to near bare wood I will mix a solution of Linseed oil and turpentine. I’ll apply this with a spray bottle and brush it deep into the wood. This way, as this duck boat will be in the rain while in use, the interior wood will be treated but allowed to breathe. If I painted it, the moisture would always find a way into the wood but is not allowed to escape, which promotes rot.
Once a hunting trip is done, the boat is tipped and allowed to drain thru the stern plug, then stored indoors or covered with a tarp to dry. She’ll last many more years.
